In the opener of a super regional against Tennessee Tech, Texas was dealt its first loss at UFCU Disch-Falk Field since April 22.
Texas (40-21) must now record two straight wins over Tennessee Tech (53-10) in order to advance to the College World Series. The second game of this best-of-three series will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tennessee Tech grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but Jake McKenzie’s double and Kody Clemens’ 22nd homer of the season led Texas to two runs in the inning’s bottom half. Tennessee Tech then showcased its highly-rated offense in the fifth frame. Behind three hits, the Golden Eagles scored three times and reclaimed the lead.
Texas got a runner on base in four of the last five innings. That, however, only led to one run as Ethan Roberts picked up a four-inning save for Tennessee Tech. Roberts, who was a fourth-round pick by the Chicago Cubs this week, earned his 15th save of the season.
