Cameron Rising had a touchdown to interception ratio during one high school football season of 40-1.
Casey Thompson scored 154 touchdowns during his high school career.
It’s good to know some facts about these freshmen quarterbacks before placing your bets, and if you’re placing your bets on who the starting quarterback at Texas will be when the Longhorns head to Landover, Md. in September, you should know some facts about the underdogs in that race.
They’re underdogs according to one betting line.
Sports book BetDSI released its lines for several college football programs’ quarterback races and Sam Ehlinger opened the “starting quarterback of Texas” line at -250, while junior quarterback Shane Buechele, who has opened the season as the starter for the last two years, is +185.
So, in the bright lights of “our friends in the desert,” Ehlinger is the guy.
But it’s probably unwise to discount the veteran Buechele. Not many people envisioned a true freshman unseating Tyrone Swoopes as the starting quarterback in 2016 against Notre Dame, but Charlie Strong went with Buechele. Last year, Buechele entered the season with a tiny sliver of hype, but an injury forced Ehlinger into the starting job.
One thing we know is Ehlinger is durable (he’s the team’s leading returning rusher) and led the Longhorns in passing. We also know that a healthy Buechele is productive and he had one of the best Texas freshman quarterback seasons since Colt McCoy, throwing for 2,958 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Vegas doesn’t seem to have much interest in Rising and Thompson, by the way, the line only features Buechele and Ehlinger.
