Football season will be here before you know it. Through the dog days of summer, we’re going to get you prepared with a series on some of the best players Texas will face in 2018.
Who is he?
With Dorance Armstrong gone, it is time for Daniel Wise to shine as the top NFL prospect on the Big 12’s worst football team. Wise, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle, actually outperformed Armstrong last season. But while his teammate was drafted in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys, Wise decided to come back for his senior season. He was fourth in the Big 12 in tackles for loss (16) and sacks (seven) last season.
What should the Longhorns watch for?
Wise told the Lawrence Journal-World that NFL scouts wanted him to go back to school so he could fill out my body a little bit, get a little stronger and stuff.” So good luck to any offensive lineman tasked with blocking a bigger, stronger version of the All-Big 12 pass-rusher. Without Armstrong, it will be interesting to see if Wise can put up the same stats while facing double-teams and more attention.
Wise had 1½ tackles for loss against Texas in 2017. In 2016, he punished the Longhorns with three tackles for loss and two sacks.
