WATCH: Texas walk-on Jarmarquis Durst surprised with a scholarship
Posted August 23rd, 2018
Defensive back Jarmarquis Durst will be on scholarship for his senior season at Texas.
Texas gave Durst, who walked onto the team in 2016, a scholarship on Thursday. In a video posted on the team’s Twitter page, Durst was asked to talk in a team meeting about a humanitarian trip to Jamaica that he took with a group of UT athletes in May. During the presentation about Soles4Souls with offensive lineman Patrick Hudson, Durst was surprised with a scholarship.
Last year, Texas used a magic trick to put offensive lineman Garrett Graf on scholarship.
"So many people wrote me off. Just to be here I'm so thankful. Y'all make me love being here every day". Congratulations on your scholarship, @DurstJarmarquis. #ThisIsTexas #HookEm pic.twitter.com/oI1aL6cRXp

Thursday’s announcement about putting Durst on scholarship set off an impromptu celebration among the Longhorns. An emotional Durst then thanked UT coach Tom Herman and his teammates.
The 6-1, 200-pound Durst has appeared in only two games since he arrived at Texas. A native of Conroe, Durst played at Tarleton State from 2014-15.
