Texas gains commitment from four-star running back Derrian Brown

Posted September 16th, 2018

The Longhorns needed a running back in the 2019 class and Tom Herman’s program took a familiar path out of state to find its first piece at the position in the cycle. It was the only position Texas had yet to gain a commitment from in the cycle. Derrian Brown, a four-star running back from Georgia, committed to the Longhorns after his official visit to Texas to become the 16th member of a top 10 class.

The Buford product plays just thirty minutes from fellow Texas commit Kenyatta Watson II. Brown, a 5-foot-10, 179-pound prospect, possesses great balance and strength in his lower body. Brown carries defenders and is rarely tackled by one person. He doesn’t possess track speed, but he’s fast enough to beat teams with long runs and as a receiver out of the backfield.

Buford chose Texas over 30 other offers. He’s the No. 15-ranked running back in the class and the No. 235-ranked overall prospect in the cycle. He’s the eighth out-of-state commit in the 2019 class. The Longhorns are still in the race for running backs like Noah Cain and Trey Sanders. Katy prospect Deondrick Glass is the only in-state running back with a Texas offer.

Brown’s commitment was first reported by Rivals.com.
