After back-to-back wins over ranked opponents, Texas returned to the Associated Press Top 25 poll this week at No. 18. It’s the Longhorns’ highest AP ranking since September 2016.
Texas started this season ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25 preseason poll but dropped out after a season-opening loss to Maryland.
The Longhorns (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) have won three straight since that debacle in Washington. Texas got through a challenging win over Tulsa and then overpowered No. 22 USC and No. 17 TCU.
Also on Sunday, Texas jumped back into the Amway coaches poll, checking in at No. 22.
Saturday’s win over the Horned Frogs was arguably the most impressive win in coach Tom Herman’s 17-game tenure. Texas converted two turnovers into points in the third quarter, overcame a six-point deficit and ended TCU’s four-year winning streak in the series.
“It’s different. We’re a different team,” cornerback Kris Boyd said afterward. “Everyone is believing in each other. I don’t know. We’re all just bought in and I love it.”
Texas will travel to Kansas State (2-2, 0-1) this week to face Bill Snyder’s Wildcats. The Horns have not won in Manhattan since 2002.
