Micaya White honored for offensive output as Big 12 applauds No. 4 Texas for only the second time

Posted October 1st, 2018

On Monday, Texas junior outside hitter Micaya White was rewarded for a career-best performance.

White has been named the Big 12’s offensive player of the week. While leading Texas to sweeps of Baylor and West Virginia last week, White hit .500 and collected 24 kills. Her .588 hitting percentage against Baylor on Sept. 26 was a career-high effort.

This is the first weekly award of the year for White, who was the Big 12’s preseason MVP. The league’s top defender following the season’s first week, Morgan Johnson is the only other Longhorn to be applauded by the Big 12 thus far.

Texas (8-3; 3-0) also remained ranked fourth in the AVCA’s national poll on Monday. The Longhorns and No. 23 Baylor were the only Big 12 teams listed in a poll topped by undefeated BYU. UT will travel to TCU on Wednesday before hosting Iowa State on Saturday.
