Texas coach Tom Herman said quarterback Sam Ehlinger started light throwing on Sunday but no decision may be reached on his playing status until later this week.
On the weekly Big 12 conference call, Herman said Ehlinger threw a Nerf football 10 times and a real football 20 times. However, throwing a football in the training room is not the same as doing it on the practice field.
“We’ll know more (Tuesday) when we put the pads and see how he’s able to throw with shoulder pads on,” Herman said Monday.
The Longhorns are typically off on Mondays and do not start game preparation each week until Tuesday, which is their most difficult day of work. Practice intensity gets lighter on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Ehlinger suffered a separated right shoulder injury on his throwing arm on the first series against Baylor on Oct. 13. He left the game and backup Shane Buechele played the rest of the day. Texas won 23-17. The Horns were idle last weekend.
No. 6 Texas (6-1, 4-0 Big 12) travels to play at Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Saturday.
