An ejection from Iowa State’s 28-14 win over Baylor this past Saturday will cost running back David Montgomery some playing time against Texas.
Montgomery was tossed for throwing a punch at Baylor’s Greg Roberts in the third quarter. Since he was ejected after halftime, Montgomery must miss the first half of this Saturday’s game at Texas. No. 13 Texas (7-3; 5-2 Big 12) and No. 18 Iowa State (6-3; 5-2) will play at 7 p.m. in a game televised by the Longhorn Network.

Averaging 95.6 yards per game, Montgomery enters this week as the Big 12’s second-leading rusher. Texas is allowing 143.9 rushing yards per game. Last year, Texas held Montgomery to nine attempts and 34 rushing yards in its 17-7 win on the road.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell told reporters on a conference call on Monday that Montgomery’s punishment will not be appealed. Campbell wouldn’t name a starting running back but downplayed Montgomery’s temporary absence. Campbell pointed out that Montgomery sat out a 48-42 win over Oklahoma State in early October. In that victory, Iowa State compiled 140 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
