With two seniors set to depart, Texas announces the addition of two volleyball standouts

Posted November 14th, 2018

On Wednesday, the Texas volleyball team announced the signings of outside hitter Skylar Fields and middle blocker Molly Phillips.

Next year, Fields and Phillips will arrive at Texas in time to replace outgoing seniors Yaazie Bedart-Ghani and Morgan Johnson. Fields tops PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces list, which is a list that ranked Phillips 16th. This past summer, both players joined Texas freshman Logan Eggleston on a  U.S. Women’s Junior National Team that won the NORCECA Continental Championship.

Said Texas coach Jerritt Elliott of the 6-2 Fields: “She has the physicality to be a dominant player. She possesses great physical skills and we are excited to get her in our gym to develop her overall skill set. She’s a home-grown talent and will be a great addition to the strong players we currently have.”

Said Elliott of the 6-5 Phillips: “We feel she has a similar game and mindset to what Morgan Johnson brings to the floor. She’s 6-5 and believe still she’s still growing into the game, but we love the way that she sees and how she thinks about the game.”
