In perhaps its most complete performance of the season, Texas defeated Iowa State 24-10 on Saturday to seize control of its fate in the race to the Big 12 championship game.
Afterward, Longhorns coach Tom Herman took questions from the assembled media, including American-Statesman reporters Brian Davis, Danny Davis, Kirk Bohls and Cedric Golden. Here is some of what Herman had to say:
“Again, I want to say thank you to our fans and the student body. What a job Chris Del Conte and Drew Martin have made. the All the credit for the atmosphere in DKR goes to our fan base and our students. They have set the bar very, very high.”
On right shoulder injury suffered by QB Sam Ehlinger in the second quarter:
“It was different than the last one. This was a direct hit to the shoulder, where the last time he got driven into the ground and sprained the joint. The X-rays were negative for a fracture and we’ll get an MRI tomorrow to see where it’s at.”
Tom Herman said Sam Ehlinger has an AC contusion. X-Rays negative. MRI tomorrow.

On the West Virginia-Oklahoma State game playing on the jumbotron during warmups:
“I’ve got to talk to our video board operator about that, doing that during pregame. It was tough to wrangle our guys. You try not to worry about the big picture, and there it is in high definition.”
On whether the atmosphere, performance are “what Texas football is supposed to be:”
“Coming from where we came from and where this program was, and the ups and downs we had last year … We’ve got a lot of football left to play, so I’m not in a place to give a big overview. We’ll do that after the bowl game. But I will say that’s what Texas football at DKR is supposed to look and feel like.”
