Before heading off to Kansas this week, Longhorns to celebrate Thanksgiving at home

Posted November 19th, 2018

This week, Texas senior defensive tackle Chris Nelson will have to do his belly rub on Wednesday.

UT coach Tom Herman told reporters on Monday that the Longhorns will celebrate Thanksgiving a day early. After practicing on Wednesday morning, the Longhorns who are from the area will get to spend the evening with their families. Those players who aren’t within a 90-minute drive of their hometowns will dine on Wednesday night at the homes of their position coaches.

All players will be due back by the team’s walk-through on Thursday morning. Texas will also travel to Kansas on Thursday. Herman said the Longhorns may have turkey for the team dinner that evening.

“That’s one of the, you know, part of being a college football player. You go four or five years and you don’t get a real Thanksgiving,” Herman said.

Texas have never before left the state for a game the week of Thanksgiving. The Longhorns last traveled to somewhere aside from College Station during this holiday break in 1994.
