Quack Attack: Texas adds another transfer from Oregon ahead of 2019 softball season

Posted November 27th, 2018

Texas announced on Tuesday that junior outfielder Shannon Rhodes will join its softball program in time for the 2019 season.

Texas expects Rhodes to be eligible this spring. A Fort Worth native, Rhodes is transferring to UT after playing the last two seasons at Oregon. Texas coach Mike White spent the past nine seasons as Oregon’s head coach.

Rhodes joins pitcher Miranda Elish and utility player Lauren Burke as ex-Ducks who are transferring to Texas. Former Oregon assistants Chelsea Spencer and Kailee Cuico are also on White’s staff at UT. Oregon went 53-10 and reached the College World Series in 2018.

Rhodes started in 113 games for Oregon. In her collegiate career, she has hit .342 with 18 home runs. When Texas met Oregon last season for a non-conference game in Mexico, Rhodes was the Ducks’ center fielder.

“We are very excited to announce the addition of Shannon Rhodes to our Texas roster,” White said in a statement. “Shannon is a true five-tool athlete, and it will be fun to watch her contribute both offensively and defensively for the Longhorns over the next couple of seasons.”

At Texas, Rhodes joins a crowded outfield that returns all-conference honoree Kaitlyn Washington and three other Longhorns who logged at least 80 at-bats this past season. Junior Reagan Hathaway is also expected back after missing most of the 2018 campaign with a knee injury. Additionally, Burke and freshmen Janna Roberts and Jaden Hoelker can play the outfield.

Texas went 33-26 in 2018. The Longhorns won all seven of their scrimmages this fall.
