Big 12 honors Texas hurler Bryce Elder after his season-opening gem in Louisiana

Posted February 18th, 2019

Bryce Elder was unable to pick up a win in UT’s season opener this past Friday, but he did earn another kind of victory three days later.

Elder was named the Big 12’s Pitcher of the Week on Monday. For the first week of the 2019 baseball stand, Elder joined Kansas catcher Jaxx Groshans and TCU designated hitter Porter Brown on the awards stand. This is the first weekly award of the sophomore right-hander’s career.

In an extra-inning win at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Elder struck out nine batters while surrendering four hits and no walks. Elder completed an eight-inning shift, but he was credited with a no-decision after the baserunner he allowed to lead-off the ninth frame scored. The start was only Elder’s second with the Longhorns.

Elder will pitch next this weekend when Purdue’s Boilermakers come to town.
