Texas freshman Coy Cobb was honored as the Big 12’s co-newcomer of the week on Monday.

Cobb was honored one week after teammate Bryce Elder was named the Big 12’s top pitcher. Cobb split his award this week with Texas Tech outfielder Tanner O’Tremba.

A 6-4 right-hander from Katy, Coy started for Texas in a 4-0 loss to Purdue on Saturday evening. Over the course of a seven-inning outing, Coy allowed four hits and no runs. He struck out two batters and did not issue any walks.

For the season, Coy is 0-1 with a 2.61 ERA. His next start for the 22nd-ranked Longhorns should come this upcoming weekend against No. 2 LSU.
