Longhorns land grad transfer G Parker Braun, a likely instant starter from Georgia Tech

Posted March 3rd, 2019

Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand scoured the graduate transfer market last season and found Calvin Anderson, a plug-and-play tackle from Rice. Hand has done it again this offseason.

Georgia Tech offensive lineman Parker Braun committed to UT on Sunday, according to Orangebloods. Braun, a first-team All-ACC pick last season, will be immediately eligible after enrolling at UT as a graduate transfer.

Some recruiting sites labeled Braun (6-foot-3, 280 pounds) as the best offensive lineman on the graduate transfer market. He played three seasons of high school football in Florida and then finished in Hallsville, located in East Texas.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution labeled Braun as “probably the Yellow Jackets’ best player on the 2018 team” and among the top three offensive linemen in Paul Johnson’s tenure at Georgia Tech.

Braun played in 32 career games with Georgia Tech. He majored in literature, media and communications and was twice named to the ACC academic honor roll.

The Longhorns landed Anderson from Rice, and Hand practically dubbed him an instant starter at left tackle. Now, Anderson is gone along with senior left guard Patrick Vahe.

It’s conceivable that Braun, like Anderson, will be an immediate starter, too. Center Zach Shackelford is returning for his senior season alongside right guard Derek Kerstetter, who will be a junior.

Sam Cosmi, who will be a sophomore, is a projected starter at one of the tackle spots. Denzel Okafor, who will be a senior, is also in the running for the other tackle position.

The Longhorns open spring football practice on March 11.
