Experienced Texas team to spend plenty of time at home during 2019 soccer season

Posted May 1st, 2019

Eleven matches at Myers Stadium await Texas’ soccer team during the 2019 season, the school announced on Wednesday.

Following an exhibition match against Air Force, Texas will host Gonzaga in the opener of its 18-match schedule on Aug. 22. Other noteworthy non-conference matches include a trip to Colorado on Sept. 1 and a home match against Washington 12 days later. Texas ends the regular season at Oklahoma on Halloween, but five of the team’s nine conference matches will be played at home.

Seven of the UT’s 2019 opponents joined the Longhorns in last year’s NCAA tournament. Only three of those future matches — and none of the non-conference challenges — will be against teams that ended the 2018 season ranked in the United Soccer Coaches’ poll.

Texas went 13-5-3 in 2018, but the Longhorns were upended in the postseason’s first round. Forward Cyera Hintzen , the Big 12’s reigning offensive player of the year, is among the Longhorns expected back this fall. Rising junior Haley Berg has scored 12 goals in her career and Nicole Curry is a two-year starting goalkeeper. Julia Grosso and Emma Regan, who spent part of last season competing with Canada’s national team, will also return.

UT went 4-1 in this spring’s exhibition matches. The only blemish of the Longhorns’ spring was a 1-0 loss to the Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League.
