Janae Jefferson joins Miranda Elish and elite company at Texas as NFCA names its All-Americans

Posted May 29th, 2019

No. 2 is now a two-time All-American.

Texas sophomore second baseman Janae Jefferson made the second-team cut on the NFCA’s All-American team on Wednesday. Jefferson, who wears the No. 2 jersey at UT, also earned second-team honors last season.

Jefferson joins pitchers Cat Osterman (2002-03, 2005-06), Blaire Luna (2010-11, 2013) and Christa Williams (1998-99) and outfielder Lindsey Stephens (2014, 2016) as the only players who have earned NFCA All-American honors more than twice during their time at Texas. This season, Jefferson recorded the second-most hits (80) and sixth-best batting average (.408) in school history. She struck out only seven times in 196 at-bats and her 39 runs led the Longhorns.

UT junior pitcher Miranda Elish was also honored by the NFCA on Wednesday. A third-team honoree, Elish was 18-10 with a 1.81 ERA and 226 strikeouts. Elish also had a memorable performance at the Austin regional in which she threw four complete games in the span of two days.

This is also Elish’s second appearance on one of the NFCA’s All-American teams. Elish earned second-team accolades last year while pitching at Oregon.
