The Texas men’s basketball team will play some of its best non-conference games — including a matchup against longtime rival Texas A&M — away from the Erwin Center this season.
Coach Shaka Smart’s club will open the season Nov. 5 at home against Northern Colorado. Then, UT will travel to play at Purdue on Nov. 9 in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Horns will return home to play two games in the Empire Classic against two as-yet-undetermined opponents. Typically, these games are against lower Division I teams. But UT will then fly to New York for the championship round at Madison Square Garden from Nov. 21-22.
Texas, Duke, Georgetown and California are all scheduled to play in the championship round, but the final bracketing has not been determined. At least UT will be playing in the same venue where it won the NIT championship last April.
Texas will return home to play McNeese State (Nov. 30) and UAB (Dec. 3). Then, the Longhorns and Aggies will meet at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Dec. 8. It’s the first time these two teams have met since the Battle 4 Atlantis matchup on Nov. 25, 2015.
Texas closes out the non-conference portion of the season against Central Michigan (Dec. 14), a road trip to Providence (Dec. 21) and then back home against High Point (Dec. 30).
The Longhorns will also play an unnamed SEC opponent in the annual Big 12/SEC Challenge on Jan. 25.
The Big 12 office determines the conference schedule. That will be released later this summer.
Texas has announced season ticket prices starting at $99 for the 2019-20 season. For more information, visit texassports.com.
