This fall, one-third of the Big 12’s top soccer players will suit up for the Texas Longhorns.
Forward Cyera Hintzen, midfielders Haley Berg and Julia Grosso and defender Emma Regan were placed on the Big 12’s preseason team on Wednesday. Only 12 players made the conference’s preseason cut. No other school had more than two honorees.

En route to becoming UT’s first-ever Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Hintzen accounted for 10 goals and a league-leading nine assists in 2018. A senior from Garland, Hintzen’s 22 career goals are tied for sixth in the Longhorns’ history books. The 46 goals scored by Kelly McDonald from 2001-04 are the gold standard at Texas but fourth-place Carol Finch and her 27 all-time scores are within reach for Hintzen.
A junior, Berg scored six times and registered 15 points during her sophomore season. Berg has joined Hintzen on the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy.
Grosso and Regan are both sophomores who missed games last season due to their involvement with Canada’s national team. (Grosso also played with Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer). Despite sitting out six conference matches, Grosso still split the Big 12’s Freshman of the Year award with TCU’s Messiah Bright.
