As legal process plays out, Texas suspends receiver Joshua Moore

Posted August 26th, 2019

Sophomore receiver Joshua Moore has been suspended and will not suit up for UT’s season opener, Longhorn coach Tom Herman announced on Monday.

Moore was arrested in early August and charged with the unlawful carrying of a weapon. He is due in court next month. When pressed for more details about the length of Moore’s suspension, Herman said the team was playing it by ear.

“We’re gathering information,” Herman said. “We’re hoping the legal process is concluded soon but I’ll have to update you (next) Monday because things can change.”

A 6-1, 180-pound product of Yoakum, Moore was expected to add depth to UT’s receiving corps this season. Moore recorded seven catches during his freshman year, and he earned 27 of his 53 receiving yards on a score against USC. He missed the final eight games of UT’s season with a shoulder injury.

Moore is not the only Longhorn who won”t be available for Saturday’s showdown with Louisiana Tech. Freshman offensive lineman Reese Moore (knee) has been ruled out. Three of UT’s running backs — senior Kirk Johnson (shoulder), junior Daniel Young (ankle) and freshman Jarrett Smith (undisclosed) — will also miss the opener. Herman added that defensive lineman Gerald Wilbon had tweaked his knee and was day-to-day.
