ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ coming to Austin for LSU-Texas matchup

Wildly popular pre-game show has not been to Royal-Memorial Stadium since 2009

Posted August 31st, 2019

ESPN’s “College GameDay” hasn’t brought its traveling circus to Austin since 2009. It’s taken a decade, but “GameDay” is finally coming to our city.

The “GameDay” crew will be in Austin next Saturday to feature the mega-matchup between No. 6 LSU and No. 10 Texas, the network announced late Saturday.

Details about the “GameDay” set location are unknown at this point, but the wildly popular pre-game show runs from 8-11 a.m. It’ll be the 17th time “GameDay” has appeared at a Texas game. The Horns are 9-7 in the previous 16 games.

The show was broadcast from Fort Worth last week to feature the Oregon-Auburn game. Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson was the celebrity guest picker.

“GameDay” was a regular staple at Texas games during Mack Brown’s 16 seasons. When the show made its last Austin appearance in ’09, ESPN highlighted the Texas Tech-Texas rematch one year after the game in Lubbock capped by Michael Crabtree’s touchdown catch.
