On Wednesday’s National Signing Day, Texas announced the addition of seven soccer players to its athletic department.

Two of the soccer signees — Highland Park forward Presley Echols and Houston Memorial midfielder Kelsey Hranicky — have won state championships in high school. Hebron midfielder Sophia Claros, Prosper defender Lauren Lapomarda and Duncanville defender Morgan Pace all play for the Solar Soccer Club. Avery Vander Ven, a midfielder from Colorado, is rated by Top Drawer Soccer IMG Academy as a top-150 talent in the 2020 recruiting class.

Defender Shezan Samanani, who attends Grapevine High and also plays for the Solar Soccer Club, is a native of Canada. Texas head coach Angela Kelly hails from Canada. Current Longhorns Julia Grosso, Teni Akindoju and Emma Regan are also Canadian.

“Our 2020 recruiting class has signed, and we couldn’t be more excited about the blend of skill and personality that this group provides our program,” Kelly said in a statement. “We are adding quality depth in every line as well as championship mentality.”

While Texas celebrated its future on Wednesday, the program’s focus must quickly turn back to the present. On Friday, the Longhorns will meet Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
