Texas to prepare for home game against Texas Tech with injuries aplenty

Posted November 25th, 2019

On Monday, Texas coach Tom Herman had 10 names on the injury report that he provides at his weekly press conference.

Herman said that offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi’s ankle sprain and receiver Devin Duvernay’s knee contusion would result in limited reps in Monday’s practice. Due to a sprained ankle, cornerback Jalen Green is questionable for Friday’s game against Texas Tech. Two additional Longhorns suffered ankle injuries in last week’s 24-10 loss to Baylor, and Herman said that running back Keaontay Ingram was improving while the team was hopeful that safety DeMarvion Overshown’s status would improve.

Herman did rule out cornerback Anthony Cook (knee) and tight end Cade Brewer (ankle) for this week of work. He added that an ailing hamstring will likely keep senior receiver Collin Johnson on the sideline until UT’s bowl game.

Herman did not provide a timeline for Juwan Mitchell’s return but said the linebacker aggravated a hamstring issue during last weekend’s pregame routine. Freshman running back Jordan Whittington, who hasn’t played since the season’s first week because of a sports hernia, also received another MRI on his pelvic area.

“The last time we did it (with Whittington), obviously he said that everything looked great and cleared him to play,” Herman said. “But J-Witt has been in a lot of pain so we’ve got to figure out what’s going on with him.”
