On Tuesday, the Big 12 acknowledged the breakout beginning of Miranda Elish’s senior season with its player of the week award.

This is the first time that Elish has been the Big 12’s player of the week. She also won the NFCA’s weekly player award on Tuesday. Last season, Elish was twice named the top pitcher in the Big 12.

Texas (6-0) opened its season last week with six run-ruled victories. In those wins, Elish collected a hit in nine of her 11 at-bats. Those nine hits led to three doubles, four home runs and 17 RBIs.

Last season, Elish hit .315 over her 124 at-bats with six home runs and 27 RBIs.

Elish was also effective as a pitcher for the Longhorns during their season-opening run at McCombs Field. Over 10 innings, she went 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 18 strikeouts.

Despite its strong start, Texas remained ranked sixth in the NFCA poll this week. Alabama, which opened the season as the No. 2 team, fell to No. 9 after a 1-3 start, but Florida State (5-0) leaped from No. 9 to No. 5. Texas will travel to Mexico this week for a Puerto Vallarta College Challenge that include games against No. 12 Tennessee (2-1) and Mexico’s national team.
