Brianna Cantu transfers to UT after playing softball at Texas Tech in 2020
Posted June 22nd, 2020
Texas announced on Monday that it has added Texas Tech transfer Brianna Cantu to its softball program.
Cantu, who grew up in League City and attended Clear Creek High, spent her freshman year in Lubbock. She appeared in 16 games and made eight starts. Texas Tech has not yet signed off on Cantu’s transfer exception, so her status for the 2021 season is unclear.

Cantu hit .200 and scored twice for the Red Raiders during an abbreviated spring. In an 11-5 loss to Washington, which was ranked first at the time, Cantu drew three walks.
Cantu started at both first and third base in 2020. Texas has returning starters at both of those positions, so the addition of Cantu gives the Longhorns some depth and options for the future.
Over the past couple of months, former Ole Miss pitcher Molly Jacobsen and Cantu became the sixth and seventh transfers to sign with Texas since Mike White took over ahead of the 2019 season. This spring, transfers accounted for 50% of UT’s RBIs and 58.3% of its home runs. Miranda Elish, who started her collegiate career at Oregon, was also the team’s ace pitcher.
