Shaka Smart and the Texas men’s basketball program received some good news on Monday morning when Keeyan Itejere announced that he will join the Longhorns.
Itejere is not currently rated by 247Sports, but he has been ranked among the top 30 prospects from North Carolina. He is 6-9 forward who plays at Grace Christian School in the Raleigh area.
Itejere is the first player to commit to Texas’ 2021 recruiting class. This past cycle, Texas signed only Vandegrift phenom Greg Brown III.
I'm excited to announce I will be committing to Texas! I want to thank all the coaches that have recruited me. I'm grateful for my parents and the sacrifices they've made for me…..@GraceEagles @CHOSEN_COACH @HookEmSmart @UpwardStarsSE @TexasMBB @UC27Carolina @PaulBiancardi pic.twitter.com/JZSb2Qc3eX

According to MaxPreps, Itejere averaged 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this season. He ranked second among the Eagles in scoring, trailing only North Carolina State signee Jaylon Gibson. Itejere also blocked 1.4 shots each game.
Even with Itejere’s commitment, Texas needs to add more names to its 2021 recruiting class. Key contributors Matt Coleman III, Royce Hamm Jr., Jase Febres and Jericho Sims will all be seniors this upcoming season. Hamm and Sims are respectively listed as 6-8 and 6-9 forwards. Brown is a 6-9 forward who is also considered a prospect for the 2021 NBA Draft.
