Marquee matchups and a trip to Maui are among the highlights on the non-conference schedule for the Texas men’s basketball team, which was released on Thursday.

Texas is set to open its 2020-21 season with a home game against Louisiana on Nov. 10. Three days later, the Erwin Center will host a signature showdown between Texas and a Gonzaga team that was ranked second in the Associated Press’ final poll for the abruptly-ended 2019-20 campaign.

Gonzaga won’t be the only test on UT’s non-conference schedule. Boston University, which won the Patriot League’s championship in March, will travel to Austin on Dec. 12. The Longhorns have also scheduled skirmishes against Louisiana Tech and Colgate teams that won over 20 games last season. Additionally, Texas will join North Carolina, Indiana and Providence at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

As a member of the Big 12, Texas will participate in two showcases with the Big East and SEC. Those two opponents have not been revealed yet. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, though, has reported that Villanova will be UT’s Big East foe. Villanova, which was ranked 10th in the final AP poll, recently won national titles in 2016 and 2018.

Here is Texas’ 2020-21 non-conference schedule. Tipoff times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date:

  • Nov. 10 vs. Louisiana (Austin)
  • Nov. 13 vs. Gonzaga (Austin)
  • Nov. 17 vs. Stetson (Austin)
  • Nov. 23-25 vs. TBA at Maui Jim Maui Invitational (Maui)
  • Dec. 1 vs. Utah Valley (Austin)
  • Dec. 6 vs. TBA at Big 12/Big East Battle (Austin)
  • Dec. 12 vs. Boston University (Austin)
  • Dec. 18 vs. Louisiana Tech (Houston’s Toyota Center)
  • Dec. 21 vs. Colgate (Austin)
  • Dec. 29 vs. Brown (Austin)
  • Jan. 30 vs. TBA at SEC/Big 12 Challenge (TBA)

The Big 12 schedule has not yet been finalized, but Texas will begin conference play during the new year’s first week. Texas recorded a 19-12 record during this past winter. All of the Longhorns’ main contributors are expected back this year, and Texas also signed five-star forward Greg Brown III.
