Texas trio helps Team USA to win over Chile at FIBA Americas U18

Incoming Texas freshman Jarrett Allen had a team-high nine rebounds as Team USA defeated host country Chile 70-50 in the final game of the preliminary round at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Valdivia, Chile on Thursday night.

Allen also scored four points to go along with two blocks and a steal in 26 minutes in his third start for the team at the tournament.

James Banks, another incoming freshman for UT, scored two points in just three minutes.


Team USA, led by Texas head coach Shaka Smart, finished the preliminary round at the top of Group B with a 3-0 record. They’ll face Brazil (2-1) in the semifinals on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Canada (3-0) and Puerto Rico (2-1) will face each other in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The gold-medal game will be at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The win on Thursday earned a qualifying berth for the team at the 2017 FIBA U19 World Championship.
