Texas freshman forward Mo Bamba was one of 30 names on the Citizen Naismith Trophy late season list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Wednesday.
The list includes 30 front-runners for the National Player of the Year award.
Bamba leads Texas in three major statistical categories and has played in 25 games. He averages 13.7 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.1 blocks to lead the Longhorns while averaging 31.2 minutes per game.
He leads the Big 12 in double-doubles with 13. Eight of those have come in conference action. Bamba’s 4.1 blocks per game leads the conference and is second in the country. His 102 blocks this season are already a UT record, surpassing Chris Owens who had 92 in the 2000-01 season.
In late Feb. the Atlanta Tipoff Club will pare down the list to ten semifinalists before naming a final group of four in March.
The award will be presented on Apr. 1 in San Antonio during the Final Four.
