Beau Hossler and Texas lead at Big 12 Championships

Beau Hossler and the top-ranked Texas men’s golf team are at the top of the leaderboard at the Big 12 Championships after Friday’s first two rounds at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Trinity.

The Longhorns shot 292 and then 293 to finish the day at 9 over par, seven shots ahead of second-place Oklahoma State.

Hossler shot 72 and then 70 for a tie for first place at 2-under. He shares the top spot with Paul Barjon of TCU. Hossler had the only below par second round as he made five birdies. Barjon’s 69 in the first round was the best of the day.


Two other Longhorns finished the day in the top-5 as Scottie Scheffler and Doug Ghim each sit in a tie for fifth at 2 over par. Scheffler shot a first round 71 followed by a 75 in the second round. Ghim was 4 over at 74 after the first round and then shot a 72 to come down to 2-over for the tournament.

Gavin Hall is in a tie for 15th at 7-over while Taylor Funk is tied for 38th at 13 over par.

The Longhorns made 35 birdies on the day. Scheffler and Ghim had the most at 10 apiece while Hossler made nine.

Texas tees off at 8 a.m. with Oklahoma State for Saturday’s third round.
