The Texas Longhorns men’s golf team shot a 271 Tuesday to extend its lead to 17 shots over second-place Virginia at the NCAA regional in Franklin, Tenn.
Doug Ghim is tied for first place after shooting a second-round 69 to sit at 11 under par along with Ryan Cole of James Madison. Ghim made birdies on the seventh, 11th, 14th and 18th holes in Tuesday’s round.
Beau Hossler shot the low round for the Longhorns, improving by nine shots from Monday with a 64 to move into a tie for eighth place. He climbed 24 spots on the day after shooting a 73 in the first round.
“I played well, I hit it straight and had a stress-free round,” Hossler said about his performance on Tuesday.
UT’s Taylor Funk is tied for third, just one stroke behind Ghim, after shooting a 69 Tuesday.
Texas’ Gavin Hall and Scottie Scheffler are tied for 11th at 5 under par.
“I felt like it was a really good team effort today with all five scores under par,” said head coach John Fields. “We closed well. Everybody birdied the last hole, which was nice to see. Hopefully, we will just take that momentum into the final round tomorrow.”
The Longhorns will tee off in the final round at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday with Virginia and LSU.
