The 16th ranked Texas Longhorns golf team is in first place after the first round of the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
The Longhorns shot 279 for 9 under par on Thursday to lead Oklahoma State by one shot. Georgia Tech, Texas Tech and TCU are tied in third place at 7 under par.
Doug Ghim shot 68 for 4 under par to lead Texas as he tied for second overall. He made eagle on the 18th hole and collected five birdies on the day.
Spencer Soosman also shot 68 and is tied with Ghim for second place. He made six birdies in the round. Both Longhorns trail Tyler Strafaci of Georgia Tech by two strokes.
Scottie Schefler also made six birdies and ended up tied for seventh place after shooting 69.
Nick Costello and Drew Jones each shot 74 to tie for 65th.
Steven Chervony competed as an individual and is tied for 27th at 1-under 71. Christoffer Bring also played as an individual and is tied for 48th at 1 over par.
The Longhorns golf team will tee off with Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech in the second round on Friday.
