Texas men’s golf team drops to fifth at Amer Ari Invitational

Spencer Soosman shot a second-round 68 to lead the Texas men’s golf team to a fifth place tie in the standings at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii on Friday.

Texas shot 283 and trail first-place Oklahoma State overall by 15 strokes. The Longhorns led after one round when they shot 279 on Thursday.

Soosman duplicated his first-round score to tie for third place after two rounds. He trails Hayden Wood of Oklahoma State by two strokes. Soosman made seven birdies in the round.


Doug Ghim, who tied for second with Soosman after Thursday’s round, followed up his first-round 68 with a 71 to sit in a tie for 12th. Ghim recorded a single bogey on his scorecard that accumulated 15 pars and two birdies.

Scottie Scheffler shot a 72 and sits tied for 23rd. He made three birdies on the day but also had three bogeys.

Drew Jones shot a 72 as well, moving into a tie for 63rd at 2 over par overall.

Nick Costello is 6 over par at 150 through two rounds after shooting a 76. That’s good for a tie in 90th.

Steven Chervony competed as an individual and shot 71 for the second round in a row. He sits in a tie for 32nd at 2 under.

Chistoffer Bring is tied for 84th after shooting a 76 on Friday. He’s at 5-over-par 149.

The final round of competition begins at 11:30 a.m. The Texas men’s golf team will tee off with Oregon, TCU and eighth-ranked Auburn.
