Texas men’s golf team wins twice at Big 12 match play

The Texas men’s golf team went 2-0 on the first day of Big 12 match play in Houston on Friday.

The Longhorns defeated West Virginia 4-1-1 before topping TCU 5-0-1. Texas leads Pool A with six points.

Three Longhorns went 2-0 in the competition, including freshmen Mason Nome and Travis Vick. Christoffer Bring also went 2-0.


Vick defeated Matthew Sharpstene 1 up before winning 4 and 3 over Justin Gums

Nome won 5 and 4 over Philipp Matlari before taking a 4 and 3 victory over Aymeric Laussot.

Bring went 1 up against Logan Perkins and followed it up with a 6 and 5 win over Chris Berzina.

Spencer Soosman beat Nico Wang 1 up and finished all square against Gustav Frimodt.

Parker Coody finished all square in his first match before a dominating 8 and 7 win over Thomas Allkins.

Pierceson Coody lost his first match before a 1 up win over Mateo Fernández de Oliveira.

Texas has a bye before playing Iowa State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
