The No. 26 Texas men’s tennis team won four singles matches after dropping the doubles point to earn a 4-2 win over the No. 49 SMU Mustangs at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center on Thursday night.
Rodrigo Banzer sealed the win for the Longhorns when he defeated Ronald Slobodchikov in three sets, 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3.
Hunter Johnson and Yates Johnson defeated Michael Riechmann and Adrian Ortiz 6-1 before Arkadijs Slobodkins and Slobodchikov defeated Colin Markes and Harrison Scott 6-3 to secure the doubles point for the Mustangs.
Julian Zlobinsky defeated Slobodkins 6-3, 6-4 to even the match up at 1-1. Scott followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Markus Kerner to give the Longhorns (4-3) the lead. He came back from a 3-0 deficit in the second set.
The Mustangs (1-2) tied the match once again when Samm Butler defeated Ortiz 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
Riechmann put the Longhorns up 3-2 with a 7-6 (1), 7-5 win over Johnson.
George Goldhoff’s match with Johnson was suspended after Banzer clinched the win for the Longhorns.
