Longhorns men’s tennis doesn’t drop a set in Corpus Christi

The No. 15 Texas Longhorns men’s tennis team shut out both UTSA and Louisiana at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions in Corpus Christi on Friday.

Without dropping a single set, the Longhorns defeated UTSA 5-0 early and then swept Louisiana 4-0 in the afternoon.

Against UTSA, John Mee and Colin Markes defeated Eric Buchalter and Christian Carrillo 6-1 while George Goldhoff and William Jou swept Takeru Watanabe and Ricardo Gonzalez 6-0 for the doubles point.


Goldhoff also picked up a singles win over UTSA’s Diogo Casa, 6-0, 6-4.

Michael Riechmann defeated Buchalter 6-2, 6-0 to give the Longhorns a 3-0 lead before Markes sealed the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Fabian Brand. Johnny Goodwin then defeated Watanabe 6-0, 6-1 for good measure.

The match with Louisiana was played to see who would compete in Saturday’s final.

Adrian Ortiz won his singles match 6-1, 6-4 over Jake Wynan before Riechmann defeated Will Huyton 6-2, 6-2.

Mee put the Longhorns up 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Vlad Kramarov and then Markes closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Coleman Wahlborg.

Texas will play Southern Miss at 11 a.m. on Saturday for the tournament title.
