The No. 19 Texas men’s tennis team fell to the ninth-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders 5-2 at McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock on Friday.

Texas won two singles matches and a lone doubles match, but it wasn’t enough to upset the top-ten team.

Adrian Ortiz and Julian Zlobinsky defeated Connor Curry and Felipe Soares 6-2, but Texas Tech took the other two doubles matches to earn the point.

Michael Riechmann defeated Curry 7-5, 6-2 to tie the match at 1-1 before Texas Tech won two straight singles matches for a 3-1 lead. Alex Sendegeya defeated Ortiz 6-3, 6-4 before Hugo Dojas topped Harrison Scott 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Zlobinsky defeated Bjorn Thomson 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to pull the Longhorns to within one point, but the Red Raiders won the last two matches to take the victory. Soares defeated George Goldhoff 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 and Jolan Cailleau bested Rodrigo Banzer 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The Texas men’s tennis team now turns its attention to next weekend’s Big 12 Championships at Oklahoma State.
