The fourth-ranked Texas men’s tennis team completed a sweep over UTSA and Abilene Christian to open their dual-match schedule at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center at the UT Golf Club on Thursday.
The Longhorns (2-0) defeated both UTSA and Abilene Christian 7-0 while dropping just one match on the day.
Texas earned the doubles point to start their win over UTSA (0-1) as Colin Markes and Leo Telles defeated Fabian Brand and Igor Cantanhede 6-3. Yuya Ito and Harrison Scott won 6-0 over Patrick Poestinger and Kai Breitbach to take the first doubles match. Rodrigo Banzer and John Mee also defeated Leon Hein and Takeru Watanabe 6-3.
Julian Zlobinsky made quick work of Cantanhede 6-0, 6-1 to take the Longhorns’ first singles win.
Rodrigo Branzer won 6-3, 6-1 over Axel Cronje before George Goldoff defeated Breitbach 6-3, 6-1 to seal the match. The Longhorns won the three remaining singles matches in tiebreakers.
Texas dropped its only match to Abilene Christian (0-1) in the doubles round but only after it sealed the doubles point. Christian Sigsgaard and Ito defeated Henry Adams and Jonathan Sheehy 6-0 before Zlobinsky and Scott defeated Paul M. Domanski and Sebastian Langdon 6-2.
Ito went on to defeat Nico Agritelley 6-2, 6-0 to give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.
Zlobinsky took down Adams 6-1, 6-3 before Telles sealed the match victory when he defeated Hunter Holman 6-2, 6-3.
Scott, Mee and Sigsgaard also earned singles victories.
