Longhorns men’s tennis team falls to Stanford

The Texas Longhorns men’s tennis team lost the doubles point and took just one victory in singles competition as they fell to Stanford, 4-1 on Friday in Stanford, Calif.

Yuya Ito was the only victorious Longhorn in singles action on the day, defeating Jack Barber 6-3, 6-4. It was his fifth win over a top-100 opponent this season.

Christian Sigsgaard and Colin Markes teamed up for the only doubles win for Texas. They defeated David Wilczynski and Brandon Sutter 7-6 after Harrison Scott and Julian Zlobinsky fell 6-3. George Goldhoff and Leonardo Telles nearly pulled out the win for Texas, but they eventually fell 7-5 to Tom Fawcett and Yale Goldberg.


After Ito took a win for Texas in singles action, the Cardinal reeled off three straight wins to seal the match.

Wilczynski topped Telles 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the win.

Sameer Kumar defeated Goldhoff 7-5, 6-4 to make it 2-1 for Stanford. Sutter then won 6-3, 6-4 over Rodrigo Banzer to put Stanford within a win of taking the match.

Texas next takes on No. 6 Califronia on Saturday in Berkeley at 4 p.m.
