The Texas men’s tennis team made it a clean sweep in the season-opening doubleheader at the Weller Tennis Center on Friday.
The competition was supposed to occur entirely at the new Texas Tennis Center, but inclement weather forced action inside after about 10 minutes.
No. 8 Texas defeated UT-San Antonio 7-0, claiming the doubles point and winning all six singles matches.
Harrison Scott, ranked 27th in singles, won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 over Gabriel Bugiga. Scott began the day teaming up with Yuya Ito to win 6-2 over Kai Breitbach and Christian Carrillo.
Ito also won his singles match 6-2, 6-1 over Breitbach to clinch the victory.
Rodrigo Banzer and Christian Sigsgaard clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Bugiga and Juri Reckow. Sigsgaard also beat Reckow in singles 6-1, 6-4.
John Mee and Johnny Goodwin also had singles victories.
In the contest with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas won 4-0.
Colin Markes and Ito clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Francois Kellerman and Okkie Kellerman.
Markes clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Biyik Akinshemoyin.
Sigsgaard and Ito also won in singles. Sigsgaard topped William Mottet 6-1, 6-0 while Ito won, 6-2, 6-0, over Francois Kellerman.
