The No. 10 Texas men’s tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over the Rice Owls at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston on Saturday.
Colin Markes clinched the victory with a 7-6 (7), 6-2 win over Ashton Duke after Texas won the doubles point and swept through two singles wins.
“It was a good day in Houston,” Texas head coach Michael Center said. “Though there were a few inconsistencies here and there, I thought we really stepped it up when we needed to today.”
Markes and Yuya Ito took the first doubles victory, 6-1 over Jared Aiman and Mohamed Abdel-Aziz. Christian Sigsgaard and Adrian Ortiz followed with the doubles-sealing point with a 6-2 win over Conrad Russell and Jacob Eskeland.
Harrison Scott opened singles action with a 6-1, 6-3 win before Ito won his match 6-3, 6-4 to put Texas up 3-0.
Leonardo Telles, Rodrigo Banzer and Sigsgaard each finished off the event with singles victories after Texas clinched the match.
The Texas men’s tennis team next faces No. 13 Southern California on Wednesday on the road.
