The No. 10 TCU Horned Frogs defeated the No. 20 Longhorns men’s tennis team 4-2 in the Big 12 opener at the Weller Tennis Center on Saturday.
The match was moved indoors from the Texas Tennis Center to the Weller Tennis Center due to gusty winds and low temperatures.
Leonardo Telles and Adrian Ortiz were the only Longhorns to pick up wins for Texas in singles competition.
In doubles, UT registered the first win, but TCU came back to win two straight to earn the doubles point. Yuya Ito and Colin Markes defeated Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder 6-4 before the other UT doubles teams fell.
Guillermo Nunez topped Harrison Scott 6-7 (4), 6-0, 7-6 (4) to clinch the win for TCU.
Alex Rybakov defeated Ito 6-4, 6-3 at first singles to put TCU up 2-0.
Stalder followed up with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rodrigo Banzer.
Ortiz and Telles took back-to-back wins before Nunez closed out the match.
The Longhorns men’s tennis squad returns to action next weekend as they host a pair of Big 12 opponents. Friday they host Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. before taking on Oklahoma on Sunday. Both matches will air on the Longhorn Network.
