Longhorns claim two singles matches at ITA National Fall Championships

The Texas men’s tennis team scored two singles wins in the second round of the ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz., on Thursday.

Yuya Ito went 5 for 5 in break points saved en route to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Joseph Guillin of UC-Santa Barbara. Ito also went 3 for 6 in break point opportunities. He’ll play in the round of 16 Friday.

Christian Sigsgaard also came away victorious in his match with Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech. Sigsgaard won 7-5, 6-2 to advance to Friday’s round of 16.


Harrison Scott fell to Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

In doubles, Scott and Sigsgaard faced Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli of Old Dominion. The Longhorns fell 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Sigsgaard will face Luis Erlenbusch of Tulane at 10 a.m. Ito will play at 11:15 a.m. against Jason Kros of Virginia Tech.
