Texas men’s tennis players moved up in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I men’s rankings, released Wednesday. Christian Sigsgaard moved to No. 4, improving by 50 spots, as his preseason ranking was No. 54.
Yuya Ito moved up to No. 18 from No. 29 while Chih Chi Huang joined the rankings for the first time in his career at No. 103.
With Sigsgaard and Ito in the top-20, that makes Texas just one of four teams to have two players ranked that high. Georgia, Ohio State and Southern Cal have accomplished that feat as well.
Sigsgaard went 20-3 in the fall and won the ITA All-American consolation title. He took the singles and doubles titles int he ITA Texas Regional Championships.
Ito completed the fall 9-3 in singles. He also won the ITA Masters mixed doubles with Lisa Marie Rioux of Oklahoma State.
Huang went 12-4 in singles and won the Rice Invitational.
Texas also has a pair of doubles teams ranked with just three players involved. Harrison Scott is the common factor. He’s paired up with Sigsgaard at No. 33 and Colin Markes at No. 59.
Texas starts the spring season at the Miami Invitational beginning Jan. 13 in Miami, Fla.
