The Texas men’s tennis team split up to compete at a pair of events on the way to taking nine wins on Friday in Columbus, S.C. and Princeton, N.J.
Yuya Ito won twice in singles action at the Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
Siem Woldeab and Evin McDonald, both UT freshman, also picked up wins on the day.
Ito defeated Brant Fenno of Wake Forest 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16. He then topped Connor Thomson of South Carolina 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Woldeab also competed in Columbia, notching a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Jonas Ziverts of Arizona. Woldeab also beat Tyler Stice of Auburn in the quarterfinals 6-1, 7-5.
Chih Chi Huang won 6-2, 7-5 over Jeremy Gschwendtner of Alabama but bowed out in the quarterfinals against Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami.
At the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, N.J., Texas took four more wins.
Nevin Armilli and McDonald teamed up for an 8-6 win over a pair from Penn State.
Jacob Bullard and Eshan Talluri won in a walkover before taking an 8-4 semifinals win over Jordan Chrysostom and Scott Jones of Tennessee.
McDonald earned the only Longhorns’ singles win on the day at the event. He defeated Karl Poling of Princeton 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-1 in the round of 16.
Action continues Saturday at both events.
