Longhorns to face off, team up at Gamecock Fall Invitational

A pair of Longhorns will team up before facing one another in a final as a result Saturday’s action at the Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C.

Yuya Ito and Siem Woldeab each won their matches Saturday and will face off in the Garnet East singles bracket final. They also teamed up for a win and will play in the doubles final Sunday.

Ito defeated Raphael Lambling of South Carolina 6-4, 6-3. Woldeab won 1-6, 6-0, 6-4 over Carles Sarrio Tamarit of SMU. The Texas duo beat Yusuf Khamis and Frazier Rengifo of East Tennessee State 8-4.


In the White North semifinals, Chih Chi Huang defeated Hamish Stewart of Tulane 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. Huang will face Tomas Vaise of SMU Sunday.

Cleeve Harper also won in the Black South semifinals, topping Thomas Brown 6-2, 6-4. Harper takes on Frazier Rengifo of East Tennessee State next.

Huang and Harper also defeated a duo from South Carolina 8-4 in the White East doubles semifinals.

Various Longhorns also competed at the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday.

Evin McDonald defeated Jan-simon Vrbsky of SMU 6-4, 6-4 before another victory advanced him to the Tiger East bracket final. McDonald beat Kevin Huempfner of Kentucky 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to make the final. He’ll face Jack Lin of Columbia on Sunday.

Nevin Arimilli won twice in the Cordish West bracket to advance to that final. He beat Kristofer Siimar of Michigan before topping Finn Stodder of Tennessee.
