In an all-Texas singles final, freshman Siem Woldeab swept senior Yuya Ito 6-2, 6-4 Sunday in the Garnet East bracket of the Gamecock Fall Invitational men’s tennis tournament in Columbia, S.C.
Woldeab was undefeated in both singles and doubles as he teamed with Ito to beat Francisco Bastias and Franco Aubone of Miami 8-4 in Garnet East.
Sophomore Chih Chi Huang also notched singles and doubles wins for Texas, topping Tomas Vaise of SMU 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the White North bracket and teaming with freshman Cleeve Harper in White East to beat Andrew Rogers and Adam Walton of Tennessee 8-4.
Meanwhile, at the Ivy Plus Invitational in Princeton, N.J., Texas sophomore Nevin Arimilli and freshman Jacob Bullard won their brackets over a pair of Michigan State players. Arimilli swept John Carlin 6-4, 6-4 in the Cordish West, and Bullard dropped Carson Gates 6-1, 7-5 in the Nassau South.
UT freshman Evin McDonald lost in the finals as Jack Lin of Columbia took the Tiger East bracket 6-3, 6-1.
Bullard and freshman Eshan Talluri reached the finals of the Whitman East bracket in doubles before falling to Princeton’s Justin Barki and Thomas Bosancic 8-3.
Next up for Texas is the Southern Intercollegiate Championships starting Friday in Athens, Ga.
