Texas men start competition at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Chrisitan Sigsgaard earned three wins, two in doubles competition and one in singles, on the first day of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.

The Longhorns won five other matches on Friday.

Sigsgaard and Siem Woldeab defeated Robert Loeb and Alex Diaz of Georgia 6-3. The Texas duo then topped Andy Andrade and Duarte Vale of Florida 6-3 to advance to the semifinals of the Red Draw.


Jacob Bullard and Evin McDonald took a win over Lukas Greif and Josh Goodger of Florida 6-4. Bullard and McDonald fell in the quarterfinals of the Black Draw.

Chih Chi Huang and Cleeve Harper defeated Rohan Jachuck and Henry van der Schulenberg of Harvard 6-2 in the Red Draw consolation quarterfinals.

In singles action, Sigsgaard beat Biran Berdusco of Florida 6-3, 6-1 in the Red Draw’s first round.

McDonald won in a walkover in the same bracket.

Huang took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Johannes Ingildsen in the first round of the Black Draw.

Nevin Arimilli topped Franco Aubone of Miami 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in the first round of the Silver Draw.

Competition continues through Sunday.
