In a rematch of an NCAA national semifinal clash last season, Texas’ Yuya Ito beat Florida’s Sam Riffice to win the ITA All-American Championships men’s singles title Sunday in Tulsa, Okla.
Ito, ranked fourth, topped the 10th-ranked Riffice 6-4, 6-4. He also won in straight sets in the spring 6-2, 6-2 as Texas was on its way to capturing the national championship.
“In this tournament, in the past two years, I’ve lost in the first round, and I thought it might be one of the unlucky tournaments for me, but obviously here I am,” said Ito, a senior. “I was just very dedicated with this being my last time here. This is just a great tournament. I’m really happy that I came out with a win today, but I’d like to thank everyone that supported this tournament.”
The Longhorns will be back in action Oct. 25 at the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Waco.
